Rental Gear Repair/Maintenance Charges

Gear renters (not students) are responsible for maintenance needed on gear as a result of your use.

Do you rent gear at Skydive Spaceland? One thing you might not be aware of, especially if you trained here as a student on our gear, is that non-student gear renters are responsible for any maintenance work needed on the gear as a result of your use.

What does this mean exactly? Regular wear and tear is, of course, something we take care of when it’s needed at no additional cost to you. You would, on the other hand, be responsible for paying for repairs if you surfed the rig across a taxiway and we had to replace an abraded leg strap. Or replacing lost handles. Or, more commonly in Houston, if you splash down in the landing area and the reserve container gets soaked, the rig will need to at least be opened up to see if the reserve got wet, and you would be responsible for the re-close fee. The rig may need a full repack if the riggers determined a full air-out of the reserve was necessary. Every once in awhile a rig wash and repack is needed for spectacular cases (happily that’s not often!). Repacks after cutaways are also your responsibility.

Students in our Skydiver Training Program don’t have to worry about these fees, but once you graduate and start renting gear, that changes. Sometimes newly licensed gear renters aren’t aware of that change.

As always, we appreciate every single one of you and we look forward to flying with you this weekend! 🙂
